The BYU men's basketball team didn't travel 3,000 miles to simply visit Pearl Harbor and the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial, or to take in the spectacle that is a Hawaiian luau. The Cougars came here to Honolulu to take care of business against an athletic Hawaii team and to walk away with a good road victory. Done and done.

A budding Facebook group and petition is looking to reshape a recent decision to close BYU's Women's Research Institute. Brigham Young University officials say eliminating the institute will actually allow for more overall research money. The cost to run the institute will now be poured back into research and other resources directly related to women, said Carrie Jenkins, BYU spokeswoman.

November is the month in which we Americans celebrate Thanksgiving Day. It is a day set aside to remember all of the things in our lives for which we are thankful; this includes family, friends, as well as material blessings such as food, clothing and shelter. November also marks the one-year anniversary of the privilege that I enjoy of writing for this publication. I have received encouragement from many readers, and for that I am thankful.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, about 20 percent of Americans under the age of 65 lacked access to affordable health care in 2008. Religious groups generally have cast the issue in moral terms and have been outspoken about the Democratic proposals laid out by Congress and the Obama administration. Yet there is a significant divide, with some liberal religious groups cheering the proposals and some conservatives strenuously opposing them.

A sking an atheist to review William Dalrymple's Nine Lives is like sending a vegan to check out a beefsteak restaurant. I am simply not on the same wavelength. So, instead of finding Dalrymple's journey through nine disjointed lives spiritually uplifting, I am appalled at the tragic denial of life-assertion that most of these lives represent.

A Vatican scholar claims to have deciphered Jesus Christ's 'death certificate' on the Turin Shroud, or Holy Shroud, a linen cloth revered by Christians and held by many to bear the image of the crucified Jesus. Dr Barbara Frale, a researcher in the Vatican secret archives, said "I think I have managed to read the burial certificate of Jesus the Nazarene, or Jesus of Nazareth." The expert at the secret Vatican archive said she has found the words "Jesus Nazarene" on the shroud, proving it was the linen cloth which was wrapped around Christ's body.
